Vintage Pocket games
The cassette-sized board games we slipped into our school bags.
Do you remember those board games hidden inside an audio cassette? In France, MB sold them as Astujeux. In Japan, Takara had the same idea with its Cassette Game: a magnetic board, pieces that stay put and a spinner in the cassette window instead of a die.
On Japanese sites, the word “カセット” also means video game cartridges. So I filter the listings to keep only the real pocket games.
The guides
Takara Cassette Game
Two games in one cassette: side A, side B, magnetic pieces and a spinner hidden in the tape window. Takara released about a dozen in the 80s, often with delightfully odd themes.
